To manage international shipping in the integration with ShipSmart, it’s necessary to create a specific shipping policy and link it to a Dock in VTEX. This configuration ensures that freight quotes, delivery times, and the served countries are correctly displayed at checkout.
Creating the Shipping Policy
A shipping policy defines how orders are delivered to customers and the applicable rules. In VTEX, this shipping policy allows you to set specific timelines and geographic reach for international shipments.
It’s important to create a shipping policy titled “International” in VTEX. During configuration, link this policy to the freight table model provided by the ShipSmart team, called Tabela VTEX Zerada. This file specifies the served countries and delivery timelines, and it is sent by email during the implementation phase to be applied in VTEX, ensuring that checkout recognizes international shipping options.

Important
It’s essential that all settings in ShipSmart are complete and that NCM codes are correctly filled in for all products. Without these configurations, freight calculation may not reflect correct values, and shipping options may not appear at checkout.
Difference Between Shipping Policy and ShipSmart’s Quotation Rules:
The VTEX shipping policy is responsible for defining the served countries, shipping costs, and timelines shown at checkout. It is equivalent to a carrier table in ShipSmart, indicating the served countries, timelines, and costs. Meanwhile, freight and quotation rules in ShipSmart adjust values based on an existing freight table, modifying prices or adding fees as needed.
Linking the Shipping Policy to the Loading Dock
Once the shipping policy is created, it needs to be linked to a Dock in VTEX, representing the physical location from which orders are dispatched. This association ensures that international shipments are correctly processed and that origin information aligns with ShipSmart’s requirements.

Important
Ensure that the Dock’s address and Federal Tax ID information are correct, as they are used for shipping documentation and in integrations with ShipSmart.
